Paris Saint-Germain

France · one of the six clubs in the Easy pool

The youngest club in the Easy pool by decades. Paris Saint-Germain were founded in 1970, spent most of their first forty years as a good rather than a great club, and then, after a change of ownership in 2011, became the dominant force in France. In 2025 they won the treble.

The story in brief

1970–1990: a new club for the capital

PSG were formed in 1970 to give Paris a major club, and reached the top division within a few years. The first trophies were French Cups in 1982 and 1983; the first league title came in 1985–86 with Dominique Rocheteau and Safet Sušić.

The 1990s: Weah, Ginola and Raí

Investment from the broadcaster Canal+ brought a far stronger side in the early 1990s: George Weah, David Ginola, the Brazilian captain Raí and goalkeeper Bernard Lama. PSG won the league in 1994 and the Cup Winners' Cup in 1996, beating Rapid Vienna in Brussels — the club's first European trophy.

The 2000s: flashes

Ronaldinho spent two seasons in Paris from 2001 before Barcelona signed him, and Pauleta scored freely, but the decade brought cups rather than titles, and at times a fight against relegation.

2011 to now: the Qatari era

Qatar Sports Investments bought the club in 2011. Zlatan Ibrahimović and Thiago Silva arrived in 2012, Edinson Cavani in 2013, and in 2017 PSG paid a world-record fee to sign Neymar from Barcelona and then signed Kylian Mbappé from Monaco. The league titles came almost every year, but the Champions League did not — the closest was the 2020 final, lost 1–0 to Bayern in Lisbon. Mbappé left for Real Madrid in 2024, and under Luis Enrique a younger side won it all the next season: Ligue 1, the Coupe de France, and the Champions League with a 5–0 win over Inter in Munich, the biggest margin in the history of the final. The Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, signed from Napoli that January, scored in it.

PSG in Treble Winner

One of the six Easy-pool clubs, on the strength of the modern squads. Easy spins the 1990s, 2000s and 2010s; Normal adds the 1980s and 2020s; the 1970s are Hard only, and the 1960s cell, from before the club existed, has almost nobody in it.

The game rates the 2010s — Ibrahimović, Neymar, Thiago Silva, Cavani, the young Mbappé — as PSG's strongest decade by some way, with the 2020s next. The 1990s are respectable. The 2000s are a trap: on Easy, PSG in the 2000s is one of the weakest cells the reels can give you.
